Last Minute Call to Save The Wedding!

We received a call earlier this year from a lady in Cheltenham. Her daughter was due to get married in just over a month and there was a problem with the venue they’d booked.  They thought everything had been arranged well in advance and suddenly the venue had cancelled.  Having called around to the other suitable venues in the area, they soon realised that nobody could accommodate them at such short notice for that date.  Numerous guests had booked local hotels too, so moving it too far away would have also caused them great inconvenience. That’s when they thought about a wedding marquee as an option and called us.

They needed much more than a marquee though.  The original venue also included furniture, lighting, crockery, cutlery and additional space for the caterers. We chatted through their plans, sent them an estimate and suggested a layout based on their requirements. Fortunately, being a little early in the year for the main marquee hire season, we had everything available for the date they wanted. The main question was exactly where to marquee in a garden in cheltenhamput it all and they asked if we knew of anywhere nearby.  It turned out they had quite a large garden themselves but had assumed it wasn’t suitable due to the positioning of trees, shrubs and most importantly that it wasn’t completely level.  We explained that this wasn't necessarily an issue and we could send Craig round to meet them that week. He would be able to tell them there and then if we could build a marquee in the garden or not.

Being Local was a Real Benefit

Cheltenham is only about 25 miles from our offices, so a quick run up to Cirencester then onto the A417 and turn off towards Cheltenham and Craig was there. Yes it was an uneven site, but with our flooring system we could still do it!   With heating included too, any reservations they had about having a marquee in Spring were all addressed.

During the remainder of the week there were a flurry of emails and phone calls as we revised the quotation to exactly what they needed.  This included temporarily levelling the site with a sub-frame wood floor and designing the wedding marquee around the fixed garden features. We also included tables, chairs, a dance floor and a catering area.  They were delighted to pay their deposit and the wedding was back on track.decorated marquee interior

Everything set up in Good Time

A couple of days before the wedding Al, Matt and the rest of the team arrived on site. First they laid the sub-frame wood floor to level the garden. Once that was in place the marquee frame could be erected, the PVC roofs, walls and windows fitted and the whole thing was secured and anchored down. Next the lighting, linings and carpet were installed with the dancefloor at one end where the band and DJ were to play. The last thing to do was to lay out the furniture. We had also included an adjoining annexe for the caterers, so we set up the equipment they had hired from us so everything was ready to use when the caterers arrived.   We had also installed the heater; although as it turned out the weather was particularly warm that weekend anyway, so it wasn’t needed.

bride grooms first danceWe left a very happy bride, groom, and parents of the bride along with other friends and family with a clear day to lay the tables and add the decorations and flowers as they wanted them. 

So was the wedding in Cheltenham a success?

Well, we weren’t there at the event itself, but when the marquee team arrived to take it down again they were greeted with cups of tea and bacon rolls along with a barrage of thanks from the bride’s parents (I believe the bride and groom were somewhere exotic on honeymoon by this point). We also received a follow up call thanking us for “saving the wedding at the last minute”. Then to top it off, we’ve had one of their neighbours in touch asking us to quote for a party marquee later this year; it’s always lovely to be recommended!
