So you're planning an event. You've already decided that you need a marquee, but how much will it cost? How large does it need to be? Where can you put it? And how do you go about finding one? Before you start looking into marquee hire, why not read our quick guide on the key factors to consider first and foremost so you know what you'll need to discuss with the hire company. Here's some helpful information if you've never hired a marquee before and don't know where to begin.
To work out the size of your marquee, you need to know how many guests you have, whether you need extras like dance floors or tables for food and if you need additional space so that guests can stand around the bar perhaps. You'll need to know the total number of guests, or at least have an approximate idea, then the hire company can work out the space required for you. A sit down event with a stage and dancefloor, such as a typical wedding marquee set-up, will usually require around twice the space for guests as a marquee used for buffet style catering, a band venue or even a sit down meal where there is no entertainment.
Typically there are 2 distinct types of marquee. The "clear span" and the "petal pole style". Clear span marquees are the most flexible in terms of sizing as they can be built in different widths and lengths, have seperate smaller rooms and entrance porches. They can have clear sides and the rigid frame does not have poles which come down in the middle of the room, they often have drapes inside to make them more attractive. The Petal Pole or Traditional Style Marquees are a more traditional style with the poles coming down in the middle of the room, guy ropes pegged out outside and are beautiful without being decorated (think of a small circus style marquee). They are however not as flexible when it comes to adapting them for unusual spaces. Of course, both types can be used so you have the most attractive one at the front, which is what your guests will see upon arrival, then the space flows into a larger clear span behind it, offering views through it's expanse of windows.
This really does depend on a number of factors, such as the size of the marquee, where in the country you want it? if you need furniture too, what about power? And what time of year is your event? We offer discounts for hiring out of peak season. Here at Richardson Marquees a wedding marquee for 100 guests with lighting, carpet, lining, dance floor, tables and chairs will cost in the region of £3,000 for a summer event. You might think that you can only erect a marquee where the ground is flat, but that's certainly not the case and there are many solutions to the problem of sloping ground. Our clear span marquees can be joined together to create different shapes so that we can make the most of the space we have to work with. It's fairly common for us to have to make the area level before erecting the marquee, there are a few ways we can do this but sufice to say that your guests will have no idea once the flooring is down, furniture in and they are enjoying your hospitality. Also just because something like a tree, pond or garden ornament is in the way, please don't assume you can't put your marquee there! We have incorporated many permanent features in or through our marquees.
You should also consider whether you'll provide your own glassware and other catering equipment, or if you'll need us to provide toilet trailers, chair covers and table linen and so on. We can do as much or as little as you need. The accessories we provide fall broadly into the following:
Table Hire - we offer a huge range of shapes and sized tables to meet with your exacting requirements.
Chair Hire - with a range of styles and coloured seat pads we can match the furniture to your theme.
Stages & Dancefloors - so your guests can dance the night away
Or how about a beautiful bar? Yes, we even have a range of drinks bars for hire
